A Veterinary referral is not required for maintenance or routine treatments. However, if your horse/dog is lame or is currently under Veterinary care then it is a requirement by law that Veterinary permission must be gained prior to treatment. This is in the best interest of the animal, as it ensures that all practitioners are aware of any cautions, contraindications or any previous medical history

Consent must be gained prior to the first appointment with your Osteopath, you can download the form below to fill in and send to your Vet. If in doubt whether permission is required, please contact your Vet

What to Expect

Because no two bodies are the same, and every history, both medical and experiential is different, every treatment will differ and be tailored to the individual.

During the initial consultation a case-history will be taken, to ascertain what you do with them, are they a happy hacker or a lapdog, or are they competing every weekend on the world stage. We will also as about any previous injuries, behavioral changes or what your aims are for the animal.

A thorough biomechanical assessment will then be carried out to observe how they move, focussing on symmetry, flexibility and balance. A hands-on examination of every muscle, joint, tendon and ligament will then be carried out to identify areas of tension, restriction, or discomfort, that could be affecting their performance or leading to the change in their behavior.

Treatment will then be applied to any areas found to not be functioning optimally, and I will walk you through what Im treating and why, and what you can do between sessions to support their recovery and ongoing treatment, this could include stretches and strengthening exercises.
